Presidential Guidance
- Presidential Memorandum establishes "Controlled Unclassified Information" -- or "CUI"
-- as the single executive-branch wide categorical designation for all terrorism-related information that
was previously referred to as Sensitive But Unclassified (SBU). The Memorandum also designates the
National Archives (NARA) as the executive agent for CUI.
- On May 22, 2008 the Archivist of the United States, Allen Weinstein, announced
the establishment of the "Controlled Unclassified Information Office" (CUIO) within the National
Archives and Records Administration.
