DOD info-sharing program to expand under order

Friday, February 22, 2013

In the days since President Barack Obama released his executive order on cybersecurity, active discussion of the measure's moving parts, implementation and potential impact has been unfolding. One area central to the order -- and to federal cybersecurity in general -- is information sharing among government, industry and other stakeholders.

Information Sharing Programs Enhance Port and Border Security, Save Money

Later today, I will speak at the 8th Annual CES Government Conference 2013: Ports of Entry: Technologies Driving Global Commerce and the Security of Nations where I will share some of the work that my office has supported in advancing responsible information sharing at ports and borders. Interagency Information Sharing: Coast Guard collaboration to meet information sharing objectives

Tuesday, February 28, 2012

One of the 9/11 Commission’s major findings was the need to improve sharing terrorism-related information within and across government lines. This spurred significant action on the part of the president, Congress, and across the intelligence and law enforcement communities to transform information sharing into an all encompassing environment where the exchange of information is the rule, not the exception: To shift from the “need to know” construct toward a “responsibility to provide” paradigm.

From NMIC to NMIO: The National Maritime Intelligence-Integration Office

One of our mission partners, the National Maritime Intelligence Center, just changed their name to the National Maritime Intelligence-Integration Office and we are honored to host their new domain name at NMIO.ISE.gov. We asked them to write a blog post explaining the change and what this means for the future.

2012 started quickly out of the gate for our organization as two projects were completed in the first few weeks: our name change and migration to a new web address.

Data standards enable real-time information sharing with international partners. This guest post by Alicia Belmas is about the application of data standards to support maritime information dominance. Interested in more data standards? Don't miss the Workshop on Info Sharing and Safeguarding Standards, or WIS3, on December 5th, 2011. Learn more.

Maritime Domain Awareness
Maritime Domain Awareness is an inter-agency and international effort to detect and prevent threats at sea or in any navigable waterway.
